The other huge problem with Bellum Civile: Hopton doesn't date anything. Combined with his poor memory of events, it presents a nightmare when trying to get the timeline correct.

At the moment I'm missing an entire day, and I'm much inclined to believe all the other, more reliable sources about what happened when, and leave Hopton to look after himself. He is very much the weakest link.

I've found another discrepancy in Hopton's 'Bellum Civile', regarding activities in the Meon Valley on 27 March 1644.

My view on the reliability of this source is dropping by the week.

These points are only coming to light because we've read the surrounding sources and come to know the landscape and the armies' respective movements so well, that suddenly pennies are dropping all over the place.
