Thank you to #SIGGRAPH Asia for inviting a selection of the best papers and honourable mentions from #chi2022 to present here at #SIGGRAPHASIA in Daegu Korea.
Thanks to Joaquim Jorge and Pedro Lopez for organising and curating the papers to match the interests of this audience which resulted in a full room. Thanks to Yongquan "Owen" Hu for assisting me with my recommendations to this panel.
I did my best as session chair (I hope) as you can see.
The papers included (1/3) ….

Ok self promotion over 🤣
Yeah, so accessible visualization is definitely a thing nowadays, and here's more proof: Jong Ho Lee summarizes a paper on sonification for line charts by
Alexa Siu, Gene S-H Kim, Sile O'Modhrain, and Sean Follmer from #chi2022. It's "Supporting Accessible Data Visualization Through Audio Data Narratives". 21/ https://medium.com/visumd/listening-to-line-graphs-531aa7d43e1b
I'm glad to see this server is growing and we have some relatively constant activity! A few problems I still have with the interface/structure:
- how do you follow more complex queries? On twitter/tweetdeck I had a column for "@acm_chi OR #CHI2022 OR @ACM_CSCW OR #CSCW2022 OR #CHI2023". Here I don't know how to do that. I just found out today that I can follow a single hashtag in a dedicated column, but this feels a bit clumsy.

@ElsdenChris Unfortunately, it is related to ACM TAPS publication system. But if you need more time, you are welcome to reach out to the #CHI2022 publications team so they can find a solution.

@acm_chi #chi2022 Suggestions for table tagging while building the accessible pdf? I'm using the one sent by TAPS and 2 hours in, I still can't get acrobat to recognise the table. The SIGACCESS guide says: 'Consider reformatting your table with stronger borders around the cells'
Add me to the list people who picked up COVID at #CHI2022. Positive test and all the symptoms. I had a negative PCR on a sample taken the day AFTER I returned to SEA so hopefully I didn't share it with anyone in NOLA. Test frequently and take care of yourself everybody!
Oh hai #CHI2022
I heard you like algorithms, bug bounties, and mitigating harms so...

Presented my paper with @makoshark and @sayamindu in #CHI2022!! My first in-person CHI presentation! Thanks so much for everyone who came to my talk - happy to chat more!
A "hybrid" course at #CHI2022 in which the instructor and all registered (paying) attendees were remote. Someone was guarding the door to make sure nobody snuck in to watch the Zoom session being projected to the completely empty room.

I’m in person at #CHI2022! Excited for human-human interaction!
DM if you’d like to meet up sometime before Thursday, mainly if we are friends and you are here already but also if you want a job involving rapid prototyping novel UIs and audio-related software (team hiring 👋)

the hardest part of computer science is people; the second hardest part is convincing computer scientists the hard problem is people; the third hardest part is tech support at computer science conferences #chi2022 https://chi2022.acm.org/2022/04/30/presenter-update-mac-computers/
I'll be at #CHI2022 in New Orleans to support my group presenting their work (including awesome papers by @ReginaRCheng, @sejal_khatri, and @Stefania_druga). It's been too long! Let's meet up!

This new #CHI2022 paper explains why one Wikipedia language edition engaged contributors more effectively than two others from neighboring states in India. The answer: Broader social and cultural context matters for online communities! https://blog.communitydata.science/how-social-context-explains-why-some-online-communities-engage-contributors-better-than-others/
