We synthesized five #documentation presentation guidelines and used our Casdoc documentation generator to evaluate the impact of these guidelines in a #FieldStudy with 326 participants who used 126 documents over several months.

TIL: If you find students do not engage with your educational video, you don't make your educational video (aka PPT with talking head) better or interactive or whatever. But you script and produce videos showing avatars (1 teaching assistant + 3 students) while interacting with that video and with each other in a fake zoom meeting. So students can watch how to properly interact with that video.

i have a list of about 50 papers at #chi2023 that got my cursory attention

i have an idea about how to talk about these papers, but first i'd like to gauge whether anyone wants to hear about this very particular collection ("things ali noticed")?

i don't really wanna write a blog post; but getting on a zoom/call and enthusiastically talking about them seems kinda fun. i might wanna record/publish it too

i know this sounds weird, so if we try and it doesn't work we can forget about it 😅

2 thoughts as i continue to transcribe papers' titles from #CHI2023 that i wanna learn more about

1. it shouldn't be surprising but i keep going "holy shit i know that person" and either i've become an insufferable name-dropper or a bunch of my peers have grown into full-fledged rock stars or something (which is pretty fucking cool)

2. it continues to fuck with my head to see papers cite my work. it's almost like people saw something i wrote and said "thanks that's helpful" and i'm here like 🥹

i'm still making my way through the #chi2023 program, but if it helps, here's how i come up with my session schedule:

- flag interesting titles
- read those papers' abstracts; drop the ones that describe some other paper, or are just boring
- read the intros of the remaining papers; drop the papers that frame the subject in a weird or confounding way
- at this point, i usually have about ~5-10% of papers at CHI
- if there are any recurring names, see if they wrote anything else at CHI this year
