This is my life. I went down the alley to pick up some peaches from a neighbor and on the way gathered today’s eggs from my girls. I carried the eggs in my pockets, the peaches by lifting the hem of my shirt, and the canned tomatoes in my free hand. Didn’t think to take a bag.

I missed the Colorado peach truck visit, so I only got four for eating rather than a whole box for canning. Eh. Just as well.

I should start a photo series: Random Eggs in Places They Shouldn’t Be.

I gathered this one right before bed as I was putting the girls up for the night.

Didn’t bother to take it to the kitchen.

Instead, I took my watch and bracelets off and made a nest for it on the bedside table.

This table was at my dad’s bedside for 27 years. I prefer not to repaint it because of that.

A client said to me last week that I am the only person they know who is happy that days are getting shorter.

It means I am getting up about ten minutes later right now to let the chickens out than I had to six weeks ago.

This is Wendy.

She is a good chicken. She likes to nap on humans.

She might have hurt her wing today. She couldn’t flap it properly to get up on Lucy. She was preening it though, and extending it, so it can’t be that bad.

She’s quite adventurous, perhaps she twisted it as she got down from somewhere she shouldn’t have been.

Anyone got any wisdom they can share?

102°F. Feels like 108°F, as our humidity is surprisingly only 33% atm.

Brought the babies indoors for a cool watermelon break. While their portion of the run is covered in shade cloth, it is still really hot in there.

The older chooks got a fan blowing over an ice bottle in the coop and will get the cold rind of half this watermelon in just a bit.

If you squint, the melon juice on the white towel looks like these babies have been up to something velociraptor-y.
