September 11, 1973 - the Presidential Palace of #Chile is strafed and bombed by #rightwing forces in the coup against socialist #Chilean President Salvador Allende. The coup, supported and assisted by the #UnitedStates, ended #democracy and a period of social progress in Chile and unleashed nearly two decades of #dictatorship, terror, and death on the #country. The perpetrator of the coup, Augusto #Pinochet, was shielded from consequences after he left power by the United States and Great #Britain.

On 11th September 1973, the #Chilean army initiated a coup d’état by murdering Chile’s President, Salvador Allende, who had been democratically elected three years prior. From 11th September to 4th October, exhibitions, talks, and film screenings will be held at several locations in #Coventry to remember the execution and disappearance of over 3,000 people, amongst them 6 British-Chilean citizens, which followed the coup.
