Near where I live in South #Buckinghamshire is this #interesting sunken #garden to #visit free of charge. Three former #spring -fed watercress beds, now naturalistic planting. It's an oasis on a hot day in the #Chilterns.

It is nesting season for Red Kites. I have seen them flying with building materials in their mouths. As monogamous birds, mating pairs will return to the same nests each season, adding new material to them during the breeding period. Did you know they are attracted to bright colours too?

What a strange underground folly, the brainchild of Sir Francis Dashwood, the #hellfirecaves were dug under
#westwycombe hill in the 1750s. Only the rocks know what the #hellfireclub got up to, which is probably for the best.

NEW Walk 228: Tring Long Loop, 10.2 miles (16.5 km) with 210m of ascent. This lovely #walk, which circles round the town of #Tring, has great variety, with stretches along towpaths, excellent view points along The #Ridgeway National Trail, quiet #woodland #footpaths weaving through The #Chilterns, and a few pub options along the way. My impulse buy from that #Wendover bookshop yesterday was Paper Lantern - a poetic little novel by Will Burns describing covid lockdown life, from the perspective of an indolent narrator living in his parents’ closed pub situated in a thinly disguised version of, yes, Wendover and surrounding countryside. Superb book that tastes perfectly of where and when it came from, like the best food or drink. Binge-reading it.
