Specs for those into such things:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7950X
RAM: 32Gb
GPU: Radeon 6700XT
Storage: 1Tb Crucial PCI 5 NVMe boot disk
2 x 2Tb WD BLACK PCI 4 NVMe ZFS mirror for /home
Various other SSDs and and NVMe pulled from old machine
It’s currently dual booting #ChimeraLinux and #ArchLinux

#chimeralinux #archlinux #pc #amd #linux
Gotta love a 20 minute turnaround on an operating system feature request #ChimeraLinux #linux
Just tried the #ChimeraLinux alpha on my software EOL MacBook Pro retina. It booted ok and shut down as expected (better than many linuces!) and the touchpad seemed to work unusually smoothly, in the y direction. X direction? No movement at all.
I guess I’ll wait a bit longer :)
I really like this feature of apk.
Say you're trying to build something from source and it says:
ERROR: Program 'glib-compile-resources' not found or not executable
I then do:
apk search glib-compile-resources
and it outputs:
glib-devel-2.76.4-r0
The neat bit it that it matches executable names inside packages. With pacman I have to use a different command to do that. #ChimeraLinux #Linux
Wrote up my experience of using Chimera Linux as the primary OS on my laptop for the last month: https://bitcannon.net/post/a-month-with-chimera-linux/
Just installed a few Flatpaks though cports on #chimeralinux
Flatpaks include: LibreWolf, Bitwarden, Dolphin file browser, and Spot, a libre Spotify client.
A few issues I've run into though, Spot requires the user to sign into Spotify each time absence of unlocking a keyring.
Second, I'm struggling to set up default apps for opening things like images and videos from dolphin.
Overall I'm enjoying having fun with this distro.
Successfully installed #chimeralinux base image with minimal-xorg and #pekwm.
Personally I'd prefer to use xterm over urxvt but it doesn't appear to be in any of the repos.
Ignore the NixOS wallpaper, I just think it looks neat.
While I'm certainly be keeping my Void install on my Lenovo Yoga, I'm finally going to install #chimeralinux on bare metal using a spare test drive on my desktop PC. I love the excitement of installing a new distro for the first time. VMs just don't satisfy me the way a full hardware installation does.
Thanks to everyone who's responded.
I've been mulling it over all day and I think I've decided that I have no use case for NixOS right now, nor do I have much time to tackle the learning curve. One day though.
For anyone interested to know, I've actually decided to install #chimeralinux on my spare drive. Probably the complete opposite type of system to NixOS, but an interesting distro nonetheless, and one that I'll find at least some familiarity in. I've been wanting to try it for some time.
I nearly distro hopped today but I was smart enough not to. I love my #voidlinux system. I've put in many hours to get it to a nice and comfortable state. But a recent update broke #pipewire and I freaked out. Rather than looking for a fix (which was conveniently posted on the void website) I immediately spun up a #chimeralinux VM to see if I could make it my daily. It's come a long way and I think I certainly could use Chimera daily, but not until I figure out #cports and get Flatpack installed

Looking forward to the #ChimeraLinux alpha later this year. I’ve been following its development over the last couple of years and it aligns well with what I want in a distro. https://chimera-linux.org/news/2023/01/roadmap-updates.html

@ActionRetro
Hmm looks like it has to be done version of Linux but finding something current may be an issue. #voidlinux has a ppc fork. #chimeralinux is an alpha.
@RL_Dane @alcinnz #ChimeraLinux does it, but I don't know how much work they had to do to make things work.
