The Alien Land Law was only one of a LONG LIST of racist laws and ordinances passed against Asian Americans, including the Chinese in CA & in SF beginning in 1858.

This list does not include the incidious federal "Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882" which was not repealed until 1943 -- 161 years after it was 1st adopted. CA previously passed it's own "Chinese Exclusion Act" in 1858 which was ruled unconstitutional under CA state law in 1862.

The federal Chinese Exclusion Act was proposed and adopted largely due to the support and influence of racist CA politicians and business men, who having failed to achieve their goal under CA law, sought to and were succesful doing so at the federal level.

Hopefully you read the famous anecdote about his rivalry with the racist Irish labour organizer Dennis Kearney whose party slogan was "The Chinese must go!" Wong repeatedly heckled Kearney and challenged him to a duel, saying "Your choice of weapons: chopsticks, potatoes, or pistols."
