Each year, around 60,000 high-flying balloons are launched just by the National Weather Service, the agency said. They rise into the stratosphere, a layer of the planet’s atmosphere that extends to a height of roughly 30 miles. The balloons used by the Weather Service are designed to rise 20 miles up — far higher than the altitude of any of the four objects detected in the past 10 days.

WTAF?? Chinese military scientists have been studying new materials and techniques to make balloons more durable, more steerable and harder to detect and track. People’s Liberation Army researchers have also been testing balloons as potential aerial platforms from which to fire weapons.

The longest straight shot fired from a rifle is 4.4 miles (23,232 feet). This balloon is appr. 60,000 feet in the air not to mention shooting up would create wind resistance, altitude problems, etc. But to the uneducated if it sounds good and involves guns on the #Republican side it must be a good idea.
