The Eastern Chipmunk is quick, agile and so darn cute. A small brown rodent with stripes and a garden pest for sure, but because they are so adorable you have to love them. This Chippie was sitting quietly on a log in the autumn woods in Guelph Ontario Canada.

I spread the spoil from the chipmunk window well debacle on an unused section of the garden. Then it rained and hey-presto I now have a row of sunflowers coming up!

#today I spent the morning removing 4 cubic feet of chipmunk tunneling spoils from one of my basement window wells. I should have been paying more attention to what they were doing, but it was hard to see in there because I had it covered with one of those plastic half-domes. 😬

Time for a #chipmunk update!

As some of you may remember, I have been live-trapping chipmunks and relocating them to the (not too) nearby park.

Well, I relocated *27* of them… and then realized there is an infinite supply.

When I first started this endeavor I figured maybe there was like 4 or 5 of them.

No matter how many chippies I relocate to the park, there does not seem to be any less of them in the yard. [looks] there’s 2 of them there right now.

I cannot bring myself to kill them.

Wifey tried getting one of those "lifelike" owls that move a bit in the breeze. 😂 Doesn't work at all. I fully expect to see chippie sitting on the owl any day now, mocking me.

Supposedly strong smells can deter them, so like... peppermint oil, or garlic oil, or coffee grounds, or other such things, but *it rains here* so that would be effective for about a week at most.

Perhaps I should just get a yard cat/fox/wolf/komodo. 😼 🦊🐺 🐲

There’s a tradition in my family that your grandmother makes you a quilt when you turn 13; my great aunt stepped in and made me one after my grandmother died. I was always touched by that and feel strongly that “make a quilt for his 13th birthday” is one of my duties as “honorary auntie” for my late friend’s son.
