The #choko vine now has a name - it is “Albert,” after the Magic Pudding in Norman Lindsay’s “The Magic Pudding” - when Wonderdog went out this evening, there was yet another choko ripe and hiding! I’m very glad we didn’t plant pumpkin as well, there would be no yard left.
Morning, Toots. Cooler day with rain predicted today. Remember I was looking for #choko recipes on #Trove recently? Well, the harvest has started! Honestly, we’re afraid to fertilise the vine, there’s a choko every 8” or so. Today we picked 13!
Some will go in tonight’s stir fry, but after that, we start on… experiments. 🤣
Afternoon, Toots! A fairly warm day here. Our #choko vine is flourishing, and we have picked the first choko of many! (I’m sure I won’t be as excited by the hundredth choko.) Mum and Dad remember eating these boiled and served in white sauce. They were a big Depression era and 1950s food. In New Orleans, these are called #merlitons, served stuffed with seafood. In Mexico, #chayote. In China, two heart melon, stir fried.
How do you like your #chokos? Any #ChokoRecipes?

@LifeTimeCooking #Trove to the rescue on the eventual #choko glut, I suspect! 🤣 Mum has already offered the family recipe books. I am thinking chutneys and jams may be in my future. I have already learned that they are called “merlitons” in New Orleons cuisine, where they are stuffed with various things… bring on the chokos!
This recipe is absolutely amazing if you have access to choko/chayote. Definitely on the list for a Christmas side.
