For the record re. the #meteorites from #2023CX1 the independent collectors Steve Arnold and Roberto Vargas had already on February 20th reported finding "the new main mass! A beautiful 178g stone, with a broken face and visible #chondrules" in https://twitter.com/hellospacething/status/1627719795389890560 but Vigie Ciel hadn't included it in their tally published on the 22nd. (2/?)
The pieces I acquired are slices, so this saves me the work of slicing and polishing them myself.
They have a light-grey matrix of stony material that shows little signs of oxidation. The matrix has a mix of glittering metal flecks of kamacite and troilite with occasional #chondrules. It is a pleasing if not unspectacular example of a relatively-fresh chondrite.
The slices also have velvety black fusion crust along the outside edges which give it extra collector appeal.

Ok, it's a holiday, so one more #ThinSectionThursday and then I will call it quits.
This is the Koltsovo #meteorite. It was discovered by two mushroom hunters near the village of Koltsovo Russia in July 2004. It is a H4 chondrite with a variety of clasts and different types of #chondrules. The chondrule in this photo is a barred olivine.
