Karel Chotek (the grandfather of Sophie Chotek, Duchess of Hohenberg) was at the beginning of sending the New Year wishes. He used the French abbreviation PF - pour féliciter. He sent the first card in 1827. This tradition is still alive in the Czech Republic.
