Information on #Choucha
Blog of resisting Refugees in Choucha:
"The history of choucha refugee camp is a clear example of systemic racism and segregation to discriminate against people, which was not the moral ideal upon which the UNHCR was formed."

In #Choucha #UNHCR interviewed the inhabitants in order to see who would be enough of a #refugee to wait for #resettlement to the EU or other countries.
While all the bad #migrants would be left in the Tunisian desert to rot or would "voluntary" return via #IOM to their home countries. Of course most of the people took boats to cross the sea at some point. Some stayed in the deserted #camp demanding #humanrights and refusing to die on sea.

This system isn't new by the way. Even before the so called fast border procedures on #Greek #islands, which left us with those well known terrible pictures from #Moria on #Lesvos, the #EU was experimenting with handling migration externally.
During the war in #Libya, #UNHCR and others built a #camp in the #Tunisian dessert called #Choucha, where people fleeing #Libya were intercepted.
