Tonight’s baking was brandy balls and tbh it’s been two years and I am still mourning the demise of Unibic’s Savoiardi Sponge Finger biscuits. We’re struggling with the wet/dry ingredient ratio because the ones we bought are so very dry. What do tiramisu people even do? We’re going to resume tomorrow with different ratios.

More baking tonight with German Christmas stars (Zimtsterne) so smol and so yum. And so very many!!!

Tomorrow’s goal is Vanillekipferl with vanilla & hazelnut - daughter 1 will make these while I’m at work, maybe stained glass window biscuits, & brandy balls (daughter 2 can assemble in front of the telly). Then fancy schmancy shortbreads & maybe some other cinnamon biccies & this first batch will be done.

These are to go to hospital with D1 on Thursday.

First batch of Christmas baking complete - free form mince pies, using my mum’s recipe with almond meal & lemon zest in the dough. It’s the first of Advent, so it’s allowed even though it’s not quite December.

When I say complete … we ‘accidentally’ made a double batch of dough & have only cooked about a third of it so far. 36 pies and counting, with more dough & brandied mince in the fridge for tomorrow. There’s some biscuit dough waiting for us as well.
