It's Christmas beetle season 😀 (They're a bit late here). These huge metallic beetles come in a range of colours. This one appeared hot pink from above but at this angle you can see pink, orange an yellow.

Rescued a giant #christmasbeetle from the footpath in downtown Launceston yesterday. What a beauty. Thrilling to discover they still exist here, especially as we saw none of the usual beetle swarms at our beachside retreat last week.

So great to have this Christmas Beetle land at my feet. They used to be common but it’s a rare thing to see one now. Hope it has lots of family around.
Please think of the knock-on effect of those insecticides folks.

The Christmas Beetle, Anoplognathus, is found in Australia and South Africa and is abundant in rural and urban areas over #Christmas.

Just saw my first Christmas beetle of the season, a red one, as it was being fed to this young grey butcherbird.

It's good to know they're around, and are feeding the local wildlife, but I would have liked to get a proper look at it first.
