I've never been a big fan of Christmas music, esp after 8 yrs working in retail, but this one I can listen to on repeat. #LaraFabian giving "White Christmas" a little gospel twist combined with her utter musical brilliance is something you should treat yourself to. 🎄❤️🥰

More #ChristmasMusicButGood @Adirondack
Put 650 choristers in a department store with the world's largest pipe organ and set them loose on the Hallelujah Chorus.
This gets my patented
seal of approval!
With bonus points for
+ Accordion Content
+ Climate Change Message
+ Good vocal harmonies
Danke!!!
(repeating but public for hashtag propagation :)
@Adirondack wonder if you’ll add this to your #ChristmasMusicButGood list: Stan Rogers’ “First Christmas”
Love this song, but it’s an absolute cry-in-your-mug-of-whiskey song.
@gfalken Yes! More #ChristmasMusicButGood -- I 😍 the Roches!
Saw them live at the State Street Theater in Ithaca, before it was renovated -- when it was just a sad vaudeville theater-converted to a movie theater-and someone got the idea to put on music shows there. Dan Smalls? Maybe. Such a long time ago. Mid-eighties. When the rest of the world was going nuts over Madonna, we'd prefer music that was less...over-produced, less materialistic, more from the heart.
Just one more #ChristmasMusicButGood today
Great Big Sea were a mostly vocal act in Newfoundland, notable for their harmonies, mix of traditional sea shanties and original songs, and the instrumentation -- bodhran and accordion mostly, sometimes guitar.
I 'discovered' them researching a song we used to do in Girl Scout Camp 'Donkey Riding' -- since I'd forgotten half the words. This one's more like the "Green Grow the Rushes-O" we'd sing around the campfire as well.
Really the only way to enjoy Handel's Messiah is locally -- in a hall full of people who enthusiastically participate in the sing-along, a good orchestra and a good choir leading. In a church with good acoustics, preferably. It's the resonance of the music in your own chest, with everyone around you feeling the same. "WONderful! COUNselor!"
Sadly, have not done this since COVID, but a girl can dream.
The Burns Sisters -- there were originally 6 of them performing, but life comes at you fast -- are so wonderful. I used to go see them often when I lived in Ithaca, and roomed with Annie, the youngest, one summer. Beautiful people inside and out. Fabulous harmonies, dedicated to each other.
