Another unlisted ecclesiastical building from the east end of Glasgow, this time in a much worse state of repair. This is the former Saint Clement's Pariah Church and hall on Brook Street. It was built in 1877. It is on the Buildings At Risk Register.

Saint John's Renfield Church in the Kelvindale area of Glasgow. Designed on a modern Gothic style by James Taylor Thomson and built in 1929, this church sits on a hill above Great Wester Road amd is always impressive to look up at come rain or shine

I love the subtle shapes and colours in this window on Woodlands Methodist Church in the west end of Glasgow.

A brief visit to Fortrose Cathedral earlier this morning, which stands in a green square at the heart of Fortrose, edged by mature trees. The oldest part of the present ruins date from the 1300s. Only a small portion of the building remains upstanding, but it contains some fine architectural details – including outstanding stone vaulting and remains of the window tracery.

Rait burial ground

Woke up to another cloudless sky and a quick low level run prior to the journey home, where I believe there has been a bit of snow.

Had a look around the burial-ground of Rait with its roofless ruined church and several interesting 18th-century gravestones. Although the existing structure likely dates from the post-Reformation period, there is a possibility that earlier el ...

Saw this strangely recent church, built between 1950 and 1980, near Exmes.

Escomb Church

The quiet village of Escomb lies at the end of a mile long cul-de-sac down a steep bank. It's a village which fortunes have ebbed and flowed.

The origin of the name derives from the Saxon name "Eda", which led to the medieval Ediscombe — the second element, "combe"'  is a sheltered dwelling place. The settlement is mentioned in the "History of St Cuthbert" of 1031, and the "Boldon Book", o ...

Arrow Stones

Not a day for photography on the moors. So a quick visit to the local church. All Saints Church, Great Ayton.

The present building dates from the 12th-century but an an Anglo Saxon church in the Domesday Book.

One curiosity is a series of groves incised on a quoin (cornerstone) of the gable to the chancel.

Many medieval churches have similiar features and the commonly held belief is ...
