I've been going to therapy every week for 3 years now, peeling away layers and digging deep. Tonight my shovel hit something solid: The Church. Specifically, the evangelical church. The source of emotional vacancy in our family.
Grief. Anger. Trauma. Unacknowledged harm on so many levels.
Tonight was rough. Goddamn.

(āGodly sorrow that leads to repentance.ā š¤®) Prayer, for me, often became an escape from that, where I could bask in love and acceptance instead of guilt and shame. #exvangelical

-Almost every church Iāve pastored in has had major elements of unhealth and leaders with no real checks and balances. This led to #churchtrauma in every position. My daughters are barely hanging onto faith because of it.
-As Iāve got older, I move towards love and grace in most theological responses. I love #lgbtq people, I am primarily a #democrat mainly due to anti-Bible principles and the worshipping of the GOP/Trump.

14 followers · 44 posts · Server mas.toRecently found out that my former boss has drove away more than a few core congregants from his church. Iām ashamed to say that I felt more than a tiny bit of glee when I heard the news.
He caused me so much pain and anxiety and I know it has to be a knock to his prideā¦but I genuinely still care for those people and I grieve that they are not being shepherded well.
Recovering from #churchtrauma is a difficult road to walk.
