Somehow managed to bugger up when stabilising my #homebrew #cider, so back sweetening and bottling created a dry/sparkling cider instead of the medium/still cider I'd aimed for. Thankfully I didn't manage to create bottle bombs!

Not all my apples are used for cider. I spared enough to make a very good tarte Tatin this afternoon.

Cider making has started two weeks early this year. I've just pressed 10% short of two gallons of juice at 1.044 o.g. Might crack open a bottle of the 2015 vintage later on to reward my hard work.

Et par gode venner læssede 38 kg æbler fra deres træer af hos mig. Så jeg brugte 6 timer af min lørdag med saftpresseren (i formidabelt selskab med DRs 24-timers rum-tv). Det blev til 11 liter æblesaft som nu er sat til gære.

Jeg har stadig ca. 10 kg æbler tilbage.

This afternoon was spent mowing under pear trees that do t belong to us, but we have permission to harvest from. The first mowing, so it was a bit of work. Sometimes it’s part of the deal we make to get access to #pear #trees, that we maintain them, but it’s also about time to do this, as harvest is approaching, and short grass makes life a lot easier when picking pears up from the ground. #orchards #perry #cider

As a #cider and #perry maker, one is always keeping an eye on the trees, whether the blossom was good, what the weather conditions are like for pollinators, and then how the fruit is developing through the summer. This year wasn’t great for pollinators during #pear blossom time, so the harvest is looking a bit patchy.
