seems #CIHR is a #DORA signatory - good development https://cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/51731.html
Two decades of stagnant funding have rendered Canada uncompetitive in biomedical research. Here’s why it matters, and how to fix it.

For all of the early career researchers #ECR out there, especially in Canada and applying to #CIHR, just wanted to share my trajectory trying to get a Project Grant funded over the past several years. After giving up on a previous idea after 2 tries, finally achieved some success after 5 (!) submissions this time.
It's a long road, and at least in our case, persistence did finally pay off with some bridge funding - enough to start some work and hopefully get the full funding next time!

California is about the size of Canada per capita, and yet they receive more than 6 times the amount of funding from NIH than Canadian scientists get from @CIHR_IRSC@twitter.com We need to raise #cihr funding if you want Canada to remain in the game. For everyone who didn’t get funded at #CIHR this round, please don’t think of it as having your grant “rejected” or that the review committee “didn’t like” the grant. The truth is a huge proportion of grants are very well regarded and clearly “fundable” but our government has not funded CIHR enough to fund all the fundable grants. As a result review panels have to try to split hairs and rank truly excellent grants relative to each other. It is a highly stochastic process. If you can, keep trying.
After going through #CIHR reviews in detail, I’m really thankful for nice reviewers and helpful comments. Most, I think I can tackle by clarifying. However, needing more prelim data is hard. It’s coming, just won’t be ready by March. What do you all do in these scenarios? #newPI
"Canada risks losing its future scientists to other countries because the dollar amounts of annual grants have remained stagnant for nearly 20 years.
A Canada Graduate Scholarship from one of the three federal research funding agencies is $17,500 per year for a master's student or $21,000 per year for a doctoral student. Those amounts have not changed since 2003."
I got 16k in the early 1980s from SSHRC topped up to 18 by the univ.

For the last three years I have served on the board of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute Advisory Board on Human Development, Child and Youth Health. I'm really proud of the institute's new strategic plan which puts children, youth & families at the heart of its activities moving forward - Better Beginnings, Vibrant Childhoods, Empowered Youth. https://bit.ly/IHDCYHplan #IHDCYH #ChildHealth #Canada #HealthResearch #CIHR
