Emil #Cioran was a philosopher who's #nihilistic writings would have you think he desperately needed a hug. While mostly writing in aphorisms, the first half of the cheerfully named Drawn and Quartered is a beautiful rant, although with some curious opinions.

He was convinced the end of civilization is near; he posits that every culture that reached its goal will ultimately stop existing. (E.g., Rome after it stopped expanding)
