Us in April: "Please setup a license server so we can run $commercialSoftware. And we need its MAC address."

After weeks of discussion whether we really need a license server and even more waiting, IT does give us a MAC address.

Me, a month ago: "Here is the license file for next year, please install it and give me the address and port of the license server"

IT, today: "We don't run any license server. Who gave you the idea we would?"

You know you work at the right place, when your IT takes three days, two reminder emails and a phone call to answer a ticket with the question "Could you please install an ftp client on machine X".

... And the answer was "No."

I have been informed that my first post should've been an introduction. So, here's what I got:

I'm a recent addition to the #CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security where I currently am completing my preparatory phase for PhD. I work in the Holz group studying fuzzing (both general problems and hardware fuzzing). As part of that, and out of my own interests, I have become a frequent contributor to @aflplusplus's LibAFL. I am also a member of secret.club, where I am uncovering new bounds of my impostor's syndrome. Before that, I was a student at Texas A&M University where I studied hardware fuzzing in the SETH lab and organised TAMUctf.

I am passionate about security research and education, my partner, music, and hiking. I will use Mastodon primarily for the first, to post trash memes, announce when I do something I think might be interesting to others, and shout into the accurséd void. Looking forward to exploring this space with you all :)

You know there is a lot of work to do, when you get hired by the leading German research institute on computer security (CISPA) and they fail at the simple task of resetting the password of your old account.

I had an account a year ago which got disabled when my contract run out. Now I got a new password, but it doesn't work. Curiously though, my old password still does... for everything but email. For which neither my old password nor the new one works.

#Airbus und das #Cispa #Helmholtz-Zentrum für Informationssicherheit wollen im #Saarland ein Kompetenzzentrum für Cybersicherheit und vertrauenswürdige künstliche Intelligenz eröffnen. Das teilte die Staatskanzlei am Mittwoch mit. Eine entsprechende Absichtserklärung hätten Airbus und Cispa auf der Luftfahrtmesse #ILA in #Berlin unterzeichnet. Langfristig wollen Airbus und das Cispa das Kompetenzzentrum auf mehr als 500 Experten ausbauen.

I can give a longer list of reasons to boycott Coke… so boycott both.

@freemo @kravietz@social.privacytools.io @2ck The effect of #CISPA was to circumvent the 4th amendment & abuse ppls privacy. It's a matter of both politics and ethics. You may not care about privacy or the 4th amendment, but certainly it has a bearing on ethics. But it is a minor factor amid the data collected, and more a measure of willingness to work against their clients interests.
