Happy #CitrusSeason, friends! Growing up in the chilly foothills of the Rocky Mountains, my dad told me stories about how, in sunny California, you could wake up on Christmas and pick an orange from your very own orange tree.
And now that I have my very own lemon tree on my balcony here in LA, I think about my dad's story every winter morning. So I decided to write about it. Learn all about #citrus in my latest piece from Daily Meal.

Today was 'putting the citruses to bed' day. Six oranges, finger limes and Meyer lemons are now in the greenhouse, three more large lemons have been sewn into hessian. I've also wrapped the trunks of all the young trees in the orchard-to-be against sun scald. This isn't good for the trees as the sun warms up the bark and tricks the tree into thinking it should come out of dormancy, only to be followed by extreme frosts. #wintergarden #citruses #treeprotection #sunscald
