From 2015:

A solution to citrus greening with a little help from spinach.

Researchers at Texas A&M discovered that adding a gene from spinach to citrus trees, they were able to survive citrus greening.

Unfortunately, consumers won't stand for that because of false and misguided beliefs about GMO safety.

So instead, a gallon of orange juice is over $10.

Non-GMO hysteria's fingerprints.

"This year’s harvest will make already expensive orange juice even more so. A gallon has climbed above $10, rising 17.5 percent since the beginning of 2022.

It makes fresh juice taste less sweet. Greening disease, which causes trees to produce green and bitter fruits, has infected nearly all of Florida’s groves. Even ripe oranges from infected trees have become smaller and less succulent."
