When #NASA was formed, land on the small community around Cape Canaveral on Merritt Island, was seized by the #US federal government via #EminentDomain and given to the new agency for its #Moonshot.
After landowners were paid and left, structures were mostly demolished, though traces remain, like this remnant of a #citrus #orchard.
NASA didn’t end up using this land, so it became the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
