The seven misconduct byelections were in two #labour seats and in five #conservative ones. #labour lost one misconduct byelection #hartlepool to the #conservatives - their sole gain! - but retained the other #cityofchester very comfortably. The #conservatives lost four out of five - #northshropshire , #somertonandfrome , #tivertonandhoniton and #wakefield - but just retained #uxbridgeandsouthruislip . #wakefield was taken by #labour while the other three went to the #libdems !

The #CityOfChester by-election is, as far as swing is concerned, very much in line with what opinion polls are suggesting.

It suggests Labour is on track for an overall majority in 2024.

That the Labour Party held #CityofChester set can be a surprise to no-one, and though it was a low turnout the #Tories may be given pause for thought by their share of the vote dropping to 22.4% which looks like their worst result in that seat since C19th!

Again, unsurprisngly the new MP Samantha Dixon is calling for a #generalelectionNOW ... this is a story that will be repeated a lot in the next 18-24 months!

I can't guarantee that I'll stay up for the results of the #CityOfChester by-election though I'll try.

Polls are now open in the #CityOfChester by-election.

This is the first by-election of the Sunak era. While the expectation is that Labour will win, it'll be the margin of victory that'll be interesting to watch.
