A part of the current Steam strategy fest is the indie game “Theocracy”. Theocracy is an old-school #turnbased #4X game, inspired by #Civ1 and #civ2 but with a focus on religion and mysticism. So besides expanding your empire, you also need to spread your religion and convert pagans.
The game is currently on sale for 4.89€ instead of 6.99 until September 4, and the dev is a fellow civ-fanatic too!

@SirBecas only currently 6 games for me ^^.
More serious, Fallout1/2 after Diablo one got me into RPGs. Planescape Torment because it widened the horizon about what a good story can look like. And #Civ2 got me into turn-based strategy.
(that is actually true in-person, and fitting for the account too)
@mezz I have/had a couple of games which I also enjoyed, but was never really good at it.
I mean I played #Civ2 on settler level, because 14 years old me didn't understand some of the mechanics.
I still played a ton of games and every scenario that came with it.
And that's no problem at all :D.
Since it's popping up on the local time line: #10GamesToKnowMe
And we'll do the most reasonable thing we can do:
- #Civ1
- #Colonization
- #Civ2
- #AlphaCentauri
- #Civ3
- #Civ4
- #Civ5
- #BeyondEarth
- #Civ6
- #Civ7
Because this is the best list, obviously.

The video game history foundation has posted a new and interesting article. The article describes that 87% of historic video games (range 1960-2009) are currently not available at all, not on GoG, Steam, or elsewhere.
This is very relevant for the Civ community. #Civ1 and #Civ2 are still not legally downloadable anywhere, so they are endangered.
Let's hope that these classics will be preserved for the future.

@lunarloony TBH I thought this was normal. My #Civ4 was already in a DVD case, but my #Civ2 and #Civ3 came in a nice box.

It took about five years for a sequel to appear, but when Civilization II appeared in 1996 it was astonishing. It was preceded by the quite good Colonization in 1994, but for the first time, the map was shown in an isometric view and the game was shipped on a CD-ROM with lots of early multimedia. It was a worthy upgrade, but in retrospect just a stepping stone to much more. #retrocomputing #vintage #vintagecomputer #retrogaming #commodore #amiga #civilization #civ2 #sidmeier
