This makes me thinks back to high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan when my AP US Government class competed in the "We the People" regionals at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in November 1996.
The competition topic was immigration and as it so happened, the Republican Governors Association was meeting in Grand Rapids! As my team was debating another school in the Ford Museum about California's Prop 187, guess who walked up to observe: A very surprised California Gov. Pete Wilson!

Louise Dubé, Executive Director of iCivics gave a Tent Talk to BigTent USA last year. Her words are still so meaningful and relevant today. With all the attacks on our freedom of speech—book bans, altering curriculums to whitewash history, we need orgs like iCivics now more than ever so educators can help empower students to be civic agents and give them hope.

Teaching my students about presidential policy making today, so I get to be whipsawed back and forth through my memories as students watch clips of various presidents from the recent past (basically, Clinton ➡️) #civics #civicseducation #president

Because one fourth of my audience is not American…I did this myself, need to work on a piece on how congress works. Or at least the theory. It’s not a bad thing. These are the kinds of pieces we need ourselves. #civicseducation
