This morning I read an essay from @JuliusGoat that explained why I have walked away from my Republican "friends." Basically I'm not willing to hang out with anyone who is OK with the GOP. Not because of "political" reasons, because of moral reasons. Moxon does a nice job of pointing out the reasonableness of not wanting to befriend people who are trying to kill you.

I could have risked popping into the shop and hoping that it would be ok but there was a fellow #cyclist who had also just arrived. I asked him if he wouldn’t mind just looking after my #cycle while I was away for two minutes. Happily he agreed and we parted with a friendly farewell. I'm not so sure about that. I think we need to be aware of the power of communication and idea transference that words have. Seldom can they be guaranteed completely harmless simply from ignoring them.
E.g. "Bob picks his nose and farts all the time. Let's not play with him." Well, if Bob doesn't like it, he can ignore the words, but the other kids are still not coming to his birthday party.
The only guaranteed harmless words are those you don't post at all.
