Today in Labor History May 24, 1980: Hundreds were arrested in the occupation of Seabrook, New Hampshire, nuclear power plant construction site. The Clamshell Alliance was the main organizer. Founding members of the Clamshell Alliance include presidential candidate and left-green activist, Howie Hawkins, as well as journalist and anti-nukes activist Harvey Wasserman. Keith McHenry, cofounder of Food Not Bombs, also cut his activist teeth with the Clamshells.

My first protest march in 1977. I was 13 years old and one of the youngest active members of the #ClamshellAlliance. I was active for years and even helped to ID an FBI infiltraitor. Years later, in the mid 1980s, I joined up with an #EarthFirst affiliate. I laid low for a few years after that, but then started one of the first political/artistic 'zines in 1993, which focused on #IndigenousRights, #NoNukes, and other subjects. Not boasting though -- I wish I had done more, and I laud the younger generations for keeping up the fight. It's looking pretty bleak, but it's not over yet. Keep fighting, young #ClimateActivists! #ThrowBackThursday
