This was supposed to be the first, complete recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio. But a few months after the first parts of the Oratorio were recorded, conductor Fritz Lehmann suffered a fatal heart attack (+1956) in the intermission of a performance of the St Matthew Passion.
The St Matthew Passion was finished with another conductor. The audience was not told that Lehmann suffered a heart attack in the intermission.
