Good news for all of us who enjoy reading classic crime books - green Penguins are coming back! It's to be hoped that they dig into their archives for titles that aren't available from the other wonderful publishers who specialize in this area too.

I’ve just read my first Rex Stout/Nero Wolfe novel, The Golden Spiders. What a cracker of a story, and so funny. I can see why PG Wodehouse (Stout’s contemporary) liked his work so much.

If you're looking for a #ClassicCrime #author to get you through #January (and beyond) then E R Punshon could be your man. He was the author of the Bobby Owen book series (35!) and what a wonderful series it is. Punshon may have looked like a timid, unadventurous bank clerk (apologies, bank clerks!) but he loved language and knew how to tell stories. Plots, characters, humour, settings... his writing has it all. https://www.fantasticfiction.com/p/e-r-punshon/ #ERPunshon #BobbyOwen

My December mystery read was a thoroughly enjoyable classic crime book. What makes 'The Metropolitan Opera Murders' by Helen Traubel, such a pleasure to read is the unusual setting and inside view of it, plus a nice dollop of humor.

Ah, those little book serendipities. Yesterday when reading 'The Metropolitan Opera Murders' by Helen Traubel, the Metropolitan Opera broadcast came on and I had a bit of fun imagining all sorts of backstage shenanigans that just might be going on.

My current reading somehow got relevant.
From "The Case of the Canterfell Codicil" by PJ Fitzsimmons.
Excited to open day 1 of my classic crime advent calendar.

Same book, two verty different covers, one from 1978, one from 1952. Despite the apparent plainness of the design i prefer the 1952 green triband.
For many years Christie was seemingly relegated to the margins as a writer of 'pulpy' fiction, but now has regained her rightful place as a very insightful observer of 20th century society through her crime novels. One author we can never keep the used copies stocked up in. #vintagecrime #bookshops #classiccrime # agathachristie
