Chinatown (1974), Polanski's best film, Jack Nicholson's best performance. Easily Faye Dunaway's best performance. Looks great. Terrific production design. Packs a punch. Everything in this film works perfectly. Neo-noir at its best.

The Damned Don’t Cry (1950), a delightfully overheated noir-tinged Joan Crawford melodrama. She becomes a fashion model and naturally winds up as a gangster's moll. A fine movie although Crawford was fifteen years too old for the part.

Sam Peckinpah's Major Dundee (1965), an interesting and strangely impressive failure which had the potential for greatness. A visually brilliant grungy western. Peckinpah's ambitions ran away with him. Superb performance by Charlton Heston.

Fritz Lang's Rancho Notorious (1952) belongs to the strange wondrous overheated western melodrama sub-genre. An odd very stylised western that makes no concessions to realism. In its own way as bizarre and unusual as Forty Guns. I loved it.

Midnight Lace is a 1960 Ross Hunter-produced US crime film set in London which gave Doris Day her last, and best, serious dramatic role. It's almost a proto-giallo, but with echoes of GASLIGHT. A top-notch mystery/suspense/psychological thriller.

It was a long time coming but I finally watched The Princess Bride all the way through.
I had seen pieces of it growing up and everyone has been telling me it's a #classicmovie I have to see. I enjoyed it and there are some lines I really want to keep in mind to quote! But I do feel like it would have been a #movie that I would have loved more as a kid.
Wrong Number (1959) is a 1959 British heist thriller. It has a neat little plot, terrific acting and just the right amount of humour. The vital clue is a phone call, a wrong number that might be unlucky for the thieves. A good solid B-movie.

Audie Murphy made some great westerns. The Duel at Silver Creek (1952) is not one of them. It does however look great and is fun in a movie junk food sort of way. Don Siegel directed so there's plenty of fine action. I enjoyed it.

While "Chinatown" is viewed as a classic, its sequel was a box office bomb, and it always bothered Jack Nicholson that: "The Two Jakes" didn't get the recognition it deserved.

Torch Singer (1933), a pre-code melodrama. A singing star searches for her lost daughter. A bit sentimental for my tastes but Claudette Colbert makes anything worth seeing (and she wears some stunning gowns). In its own way it's quite pre-code.

The 1929 version of The Letter might not be as good as the 1940 version and it doesn't have Bette Davis but it is pre-code so it's much more salacious and sexually honest and Jeanne Eagels' performance is outrageous. It's worth a look.

A thread. Rewatched the original #Sicario (2015). It is simply a masterful piece of film, a prime example of what happens when you have an all star team in front of and behind the camera.
How did this movie not win every award? (answer: shocking violence). From the very first scene it smashes you in the gut and keeps throwing haymakers until the credits roll.
Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Huston star in Anthony Mann's western The Furies (1950), a slightly noirish nicely overheated psycho-sexual-emotional melodrama. Not a perfect film but fascinating and hugely enjoyable with Stanwyck and Huston in top form.

The first zombie movie: “White Zombie” premiered July 28, 1932, in New York City with Bela Lugosi as a voodoo mastermind who entrances his victims into zombies. It is wild!
“White Zombie” is considered the first feature length zombie movie, and it became a model for most zombie movies to this day.

Audrey Hepburn is ethereal in 1959’s often overlooked “The Nun’s Story.”
Made in the middle of her remarkable run of movies, “The Nun’s Story” follows Hepburn’s Sister Luke as she tries to reconcile training to be a nun and her medical ambitions. Hepburn earned an Oscar nomination as best actress for the box office hit, which hit U.S. theaters July 18, 1959.

Watched Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train (1951) yet again and I'm still impressed by its technical perfection. And I'm noticing the subtle and disturbing touches of moral ambiguity. A great movie and an interesting one.

James Whale's 1931 film Waterloo Bridge, the tale of an American soldier who falls in love with an English prostitute, has attracted much praise. Personally I didn’t like any of the performances or the characters and this movie left me cold.
