My HS Ss "got it" immediately, especially the idea of which operations distribute over others: an operation can distribute over those that are ONE level down, not two.
So 3•(10 + 4) distributes to 3•10 + 3•4
But (10 + 4)^2 doesn't become 10^2 + 4^2

And I like the clarity of having brackets, parentheses & fraction bar as grouping symbols on the left, that supersede the order in the tower by "prioritizing" what is grouped.
