Gosh #microfluidics and #photolithography are fun. Spent some time tonight making a master mold and going over procedures in our #cleanroom at the college. So much fun! My PhD leverages these skills to enable the automation of experiments.

In a #scanning #electron #microscope (#SEM), a beam of finely collimated electrons is accelerated towards the specimen to be imaged.
The beam is scattered by the target, and several detectors reconstruct its surface topography and chemical composition with ultra-high spatial resolution.
Here, the specimen is #gold #nanoparticles on a #carbon substrate.
For this color image, I combined the signal from secondary electron emission (luminance) with the energy-selective backscatter detector (gold hue).
The size of each pixel is approximately 4 nanometers, corresponding to just ten gold atoms!
