"You lead me beside quiet waters"
Sunshine and showers cycling along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal today, the tentative hint of thunder rippling over the canopy. #biketooter #ClergyWhoCycle
If some of the thousands of miles of travel done in the name of God could be travelled with a lighter footprint, we feel that God’s good creation may breathe a little more easily... promoting cycling among the church and faith among cyclists. #ClergyWhoCycle

RRtY, otherwise known as Randonneur Round the Year, is an Audax UK award for cycling at least one 200km ride each month, every month, for a year. It is not glamourous, and doesn't involve a photographer hanging out of the boot of a car documenting how epic you are. The ingredients are you and your bike, with a splash of winter misery. Start in the dark, finish in the dark... these are winter miles, ones that whisper of summer smiles.

I'm reminded what a friend said to me a month or so ago, "Those in cars are trying to get where they want to be. Cyclists are where they want to be." #KeepPedalling #ClergyWhoCycle

Revd Grace Thomas (Diocese of Manchester) and Revd Graeme Holdsworth (Diocese of Leeds) are planning a “Cycle of Prayer” on 3rd June 2023, “World Bicycle Day”
Our plan is a sociable ride sharing the joy of cycling: eating cake, uniting in prayer, and promoting the huge range of blessings that cycling can be.
We are in the early planning stages. Contact us if you are interested in joining.

Learning to cycle on short easy journeys (when the sun is shining) creates the groundwork for 20 mile rides in heavy traffic and pouring rain. I'm not going to pretend today was fun, but it wasn't hell. It wasn't as bad as it might look from behind a windscreen. My rain cape, the goretex + velcro overshoes and the full length mudguards were awesome. I rode in Swvre cycling jeans and a plain t-shirt I was cool enough and dry enough. #cycling #ClergyWhoCycle
It's pouring with rain and it isn't going to let up. Do I drive the 5 mile round trip, or cycle? Drum roll... to the rescue Carradice Cape! I cycle in the dry because I have a rain cape... sing wooo, sing yay! #rain #commute #cycling #ClergyWhoCycle

Today I needed some space to think and mull on the two very different sermons I'll be preaching on Remembrance Sunday, so where did I go? Why, here of course:
#ClergyWhoCycle
Helloooo! #introduction I'm Graeme a keen long distance cyclist, and happen to be a priest and vicar in the Church of England.
I have 20ish years of commercial experience in Analytical Chemistry, Enterprise Software Systems and Genetic Screening. I love the way science draws our imagination to the edge of the known universe and then pokes it with a stick.
A few years ago I reflected on the relationship between my faith and cycling... clicky-link:
I love cycling but occasionally I get frightened. As a person of faith who believes in life before death, and that divine love hopes to liberate humanity from fear of death, I have sought out a way to cycle without fear. After a bit of theological thinking, I came up with a rewording of psalm 23. A psalm for cyclists...

I have no intention of rebuilding my experience of other social media environments here. I love conversations in the niche venn diagram where 'science ∪ cycling ∪ faith'... but without the adverts and without an algorithm boosting click bait. I love that I'm in control of what I engage with. #ClergyWhoCycle
I'd like to add a hashtag for those niche clergy who ride bicycles... #ClergyWhoCycle ... I'm someone who thinks that the ministry of those who've been ordained should move with light footsteps through God's good creation. This is aspirational rather than dogmatic... there are times when ministry is so exhausting the car feels like the only option. However, there are way more times when choosing the bicycle is a total blessing. Clergy who cycle. Yay.
