Occasionally I am contacted by people who have severe climate anxiety (or climate depression). In my experience there is very often something else in the background going on. But I wonder if anyone on here has good resources to point people towards (other than psychological help)

I'm surprised how courses often take as a given: a justified response to the facts of climate change. But this research in suggests otherwise. Maybe the fuller facts might help reduce climate anxiety? link.springer.com/article/10.1

Bit wordy for my liking but talks about building critical hope bottom up in education.

@rahmstorf I used to think this would not be in my lifetime and by generating our own power, having own water supply and growing our own food, my family & I would be able to eke out a reasonable life if we were somehow able to keep what we’d built for ourselves. All seems increasingly unlikely.

Important post on by Päivi Antila:

"[S]haring painful feelings with others energizes, nourishes and invigorates the participants – and brings to life humor and a sense of togetherness.

[W]hen people open up to the flow of their emotional experiences, which can include despair, sadness, guilt, rage, and fear, they feel as if a burden has been lifted from their shoulders. When we dare to test the depth of our pain, we realize that it is not bottomless."

Mercedes-Benz apparently got the drag coefficient of their new down to 0.17, which would make it the most aerodynamic car ever produced. For reference, a typical car is somewhere in the 0.3 to 0.4 range.

The enhanced aerodynamics working together with the 30% lighter, 100-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery allows the EQXX to travel more than 620 miles on a single charge.

is a lot less traumatic than is

Feeling ? Me too. But I've learned that action is the antidote to despair, and I think it's helpful to get involved with an organization in which I can actively DO something, rather than just give money. I chose Citizens' Climate Lobby. Every time I feel anxious, I listen to a meeting, complete a training, write a letter to the editor, or contact my members of Congress. It works! citizensclimatelobby.org/about

“Rather than climate anxiety, we should be calling it politician anxiety or people anxiety, because it’s the people in power who are failing to do the right thing whilst lying to us, or doing the opposite, that is causing the terror.” — Caroline Hickman

Just as in Plato's allegory of the cave, so then Reality is itself an archetypal emanation of the loving God.

A people who are not only drawn to one another in bonds of love, but also to a loving Source, are a people who can overcome their fear of annihilation, and find the courage and motivation to rise to the challenge climate change represents.

We've had a beautiful summer in Vancouver. Lots of warm sunny days and very little rain. I'm trying to enjoy it, but it's hard when the rest of the province is on fire. Tonight our sunset looks like the blood moon is rising.

I’m usually optimistic about the future but the lack of action on climate change, even while the world burns, has me feeling anxious and depressed. I’m curious how other people are coping.

Recently I catch myself becoming more and more fatigued not by the , but by the stubborn unwillingness of people to imagine any alternatives to our current course.

I get it, I am not a writer, my is slow and subpar. I'm better at research, creating prompts and such.

It's just so disheartening to share all my work with yet another aspiring writer only to hear... "but I was thinking of a cyberpunk dystopia, but with an evil socialist twist this time!".

Which brings to mind the whole question of 'what would we expect to see when this denied fear of death is reduced?'

In broad brush strokes (not applying to everyone) the following might be expected

- greater feeling of connection with people
- desire to be of service to humanity
- increased courage to act in the long term interests of people we cannot see

The whole concept is explored further in this article:

Organize, organize, organize! We are stronger and can better support each other when we work together for change.

From the article, even survivors of the wildfires in Greece deny that the fires were made likely and worse because of climate change.

It has become an unacceptable, taboo, subject among them.

Not only because of shrinking from accountability.

But because facing death - their own annihiliation - is the monster grinning in the dark.

Taking on this shibboleth is key to our future.

There was previously no term for the feeling of desolation in the face of ongoing environmental destruction. Now in German there's (from "solace", English, and -algie, Greek "pain").
You can also listen how to cope psychologically with / in this interview/podcast. (In German)

A friend recently proposed that the reason my sessions have reached a plateau is because no therapist can address the existential dread and grief I feel for the planet & its inhabitants. No matter how you deal with your , once your eyes have been opened, you cannot forget that every choice you make affects everyone else.
