While AB will always take comfort that the world will always need oil and gas products, the way humanity consumes energy is changing. We cannot be complacent about climate change, and ABs can never underestimate the focus of other countries on the future.

China had signalled - one of the largest markets for vehicles - it was to transition to electric motor vehicles. Conspicuously, legacy car manufacturers continued to produce gas motors and there are signs that the major auto companies are sitting with massive inventories in China that may not qualify to be sold at all by 2023 Spring/Summer.

AB can adapt by building out transportation infrastructure, such as rail, and investing in the electrified future for its people.

Canada has a great deal to offer for battery technology. Our game is not just electric vehicle technology. There are also options for commercial and residential applications. We can produce grid level options for energy storage.

There are different chemistries being researched, but Vanadium is interesting.

Imperial Oil/Exxon are still investigating two separate incidents of contamination from tailings areas, one from May 2022 and another from Feb 4, 2023.

AB should not find this as an issue that caught us by surprise. Instead, this situation has been in the making for decades and now comes to an ugly result.

At this point every response should be on board, including inviting our neighbours in the Northwest Territories to run and/or make any claims they have to in anticipation of greater contamination.

Public transit isn't popular in AB. Community models based on pedestrian and bicycle traffic is not popular in AB. Commercial and residential mixed use models are not popular in AB.

AB's dominant build model is based on Maxis' Sim City 2000.

You can see how AB builds that the dominant subsidized interest is for cars.

Politicians will have to run the gambit and sacrifice themselves for the future.

You can't access competitive services, you can't reach other parts of town, you can't get across town. We have to start thinking of a future where demand for oil and gas stabilizes. AB should be investing heavily into rail and public transit now.

AB won't install rail once the profits draw down and the world moves on to petroleum from other countries for easier access. We'll be chained down with immense sprawl and long roadways

Redlining completely hollowed the neighbourhoods of Detroit, destroying the communities that once grew there.

When you take a ride through town you notice that we build by how affordable land is. AB tends to build flat and wide instead of up and tight. We are sprawling so far that we fail to make efficient or economical use of the space we have. If you see what someone on foot can accomplish in 10 minutes, most of the time: not much.

The issue was raised in the past so I'll lift my thoughts from the bird site. AB neighbourhoods are not built smarter, and we're chaining ourselves down with increasing maintenance costs by sprawling outwards.

Detroit sprawled outwards due in large part to a set of social policies of racism and exclusion, referred to as the practice of Redlining. What resulted was an exodus of wealth and talent from the core to suburbs.
