@Loukas @davidrypel so true. This, by the way, is another paper i would like to write (once i get many other unfinished, overdue ones out of the way): about class, and in particular the upper middle class (the top 7% say). This class and its values, interests, powers is so important in #climateDelayism and we don’t talk about it enough
@CiaraNi @Firlefanz yes, you are so right- that definitely came into it for me. I’ve been trying to work out why, after being very concerned as a teenager/student in the 80s/first half of 90s, i then, somehow, relaxed a bit abkut climate change, along with so many others. That was one reason; and the #climateDelayism propaganda of #FossilFuel jndustry, spreading doubt etc. it affected me too, i am embarrassed to admit.
A visual metaphor for the various #carbonremoval #vapourware #scams that will feature big as #fossil #capital seeks to continue profiting from its sunk investment, while promoting #climatedelayism.

We, the climate movement, need to talk MUCH more about #Class. It is class - the hold the upper middle class/elite have on our institutions, politics, economy, media, values - that is at the core of #ClimateEmergency and #ClimateDelayism. Focus on breaking this hold can also broaden and strengthen the movement as this #class is also behind rising #inequality #CostofLivingCrisis decay of #PublicHealth etc

@outi Thank you for sharing all this - those kinds of feelings of #Dissonance are another emerging theme on #ClimateDiary. Maybe you can indeed discuss the lack of #sustainability at ECR2023 in corridor conversations. Academic conferences are a real crux of #ClimateDelayism - each one massive carbon footprint, and then so blinkered and focused on whatever their topic is that hardly any address the big questions. As Charlie Gardner @jks and others keep saying, academia really needs to change
