The #GulfStream system could collapse as soon as 2025, a new study suggests. The shutting down of the vital ocean currents, called the #AtlanticMeridionalOverturningCirculation ( #AMOC ) by scientists, would bring catastrophic #ClimateImpacts.
Amoc was already known to be at its weakest in 1,600 years owing to #GlobalHeating and researchers spotted warning signs of a tipping point in 2021.

Thinking of everyone who lived through the bushfire that changed Canberra forever. Surprised at my emotions this year (different this year, a bit like Brian Schmidt's on the radio version of his interview, though I noticed over the last couple of days I still prick up at any smell of bushfire smoke). Perhaps this is a result listening to ABC Canberra​ packages of memories (to which wasn't sure I wanted to listen). I won't be going to the commemorative event.
Given the unfolding and accelerating consequences of damage to our climate, I'm also thinking of everyone else who has been, is and will be affected by disasters like this and catastrophic floods and storms.

@MKSinSA I have a nurse daughter in Portland, so yea I know. In fact, back in July, 98 during the record El Nino, I thought the temps I worked in as a field scientist would surely wake people up. It was freaking hot! But the public just bought more air conditioning units for their homes. I hope they now know they should build underground safe places too or move from the oceans cause the process is so now so advanced, its only downhill from here. #goodluck #climateimpacts #mitigation

@Andy_Scollick We installed new hurricane proof windows in our northern home, along with cement board siding for the house. We also put in a home generator. I saw all these things helped protect individual homes during my disaster deployments. Next is a metal roof. And when we moved north in '18 as part of our climate action plan, I looked at the county #soil survey to know of any danger under my feet or from the area's hydrology. #climateimpacts #climatechange #climateaction

New #UNEP 2020 Adaptation Gap Report

#ClimateChangeAdaptation action is lagging far behind. While nations have advanced in planning, huge gaps remain in finance for #developingcountries and bringing #adaptation projects to the stage where they bring real protection against #climateimpacts such as #droughts, #floods and #sealevelrise.

Emphasis is on #naturebasedsolutions, public and private #adaptationfinance, locally appropriate actions.
