I have no idea what they were thinking doing this - while it's not the worst #ClosePass, it might be among the most pointless: Quickly overtake and squeeze me in order to... get stuck in a queue behind a bin lorry, and save themselves 0 seconds, because I just scoot past and go up the bike lane.

This one's been echoing round my head a few days, particularly because of a regular journey I made round about the same time. Nothing was odd about the journey apart from 10 close passes instead of 0-2 over 30 mostly rural miles in Portugal. Same amount of traffic, same route, same journey, same time - afternoon.

It was only the next day I realised what was unusual. It was cold: I was wearing a cap that covered my head and thick clothing--not a #helmet--never worn one of those in 65 years and thousands of km.

I'm a thin oldie with a shock of white hair. I guess that when drivers can see that, it makes them considerate of me.

I'm also very vehicle savvy: long-time heavy/multiple vehicle driver as well as ebiker; not afraid to take lane, neither reluctant to thank kindness.

I realise this is anecdotal; and that there are stats that back this up; and it's not the first time I've noticed this - in the UK as well; and that it's "sad" that this is how it is....

But just thought I'd put it out as food for thought. And not suggesting US #carculture responds in the same way!

North #Sheffield deliveries of #coffee completed by #bike today. Didn’t travel much by #bicycle in December partly because of weather but also because before that had too many close passes so opted for car.

Was fun #cycling today however & what I needed to get back into it. One #closepass that didn’t get on camera unfortunately but most of this route was off main roads so that helps. We will aim to #cycle when we can this year.

When you snap a picture of the perfect example of unsafe cycling conditions:

Close pass from van and broken glass across the shoulder (no stopping zone) of the road in front of cyclist.

This road seems to do drivers heads in, they simply cannot wait a few seconds to go around safely because there are trees in the islands of the road.

A street #googlemaps will tag as having a dedicated bike lane definately doesnt mean its safe to ride on.

The road pictured has painted sections that Im guessing are for no parking, they certainly arent wide enough to be considered a bike lane.

So the wet weather today seemed to cause brain failure in a lot of #perthdrivers today. This morning I again had a #closepass on my #bikecommute to work, with silver SUV driver somehow unable to see a 6'2" highviz cyclist with flashing taillights.

Heading home in the afternoon and I thought I'm going to be as safe as I can, and there will be nothing as dangerous as the morning closepass...

Oh boy was I wrong.

2 drivers who failed to giveway to an indicating bus felt it was OK to drive head on at me on the wrong side of the road.

This mornings #closepass on the #bikecommute - Dude with is kid in the front seat. Same 'quiet' street as last one. Crimestopper report made already. I dont usually get 2 in the same week. This road has child care centres, 2 schools, parks and homes, yet is designed as a 70kmhr race track.

It's that time of year it seems.

A really close pass on each of my commutes for the past two days.

All reported to operation snap.

Well apart from the close pass that was just another cyclist - a "pro" who decided that the fat old bloke in an Ikea high viz was clearly not going to be going fast ..
1/2 a mile later they glanced over their shoulder and were ... Slightly shocked ... To see me tucked on close getting a nice slipstream off him ...
