The State of #WebAssembly 2023 - Report in PDF, no paywall
My self-esteem's always been a bit of a mess. So, get this: I just tossed 17 commits to this #CNCF thingy (#Kubernetes client for #Java thing), fixing a bunch of bugs and stuff. And I was like, "No way they're gonna be cool with this from a nobody like me."
But hold up, Brendan Burns (yup, that Kubernetes co-founder dude) checked it out and - bam! He didn't just accept it; he threw it right into the main branch. For those who have problems with low self-esteem, learning remains.

Do you maintain an #opensource #CNCF project that uses a dependency with "source available" non-open source license (a.k.a. fauxpen source license)?
Here are the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) guidelines, in light of recent relicensing moves such as Terraform and Elasticsearch
https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/main/source-available-recommendations.md#recommendations
Note: this is an initial draft, following a mapping of the implications of the recent license changes to HashiCorp projects. You can review and chime in:
https://github.com/cncf/foundation/issues/617
π’ #OpenTF community has officially forked #Terraform to keep it #opensource after HashiCorp's relicensing move.
TL;DR:
π’ work to have #OpenTF join the #CNCF
π’ fork isn't public yet, expected in 1-2 weeks.
π’ public roadmap available on github
π’ drop-in replacement for Terraform and should work with all existing TF providers and modules

In just under two weeks, I'll be speaking at Kubernetes Community Day Australia in Sydney. I'm so looking forward to it!
I'll be giving a talk on my journey of Kubernetes through client-go and k8s-conformance.
Hope to see you there!

Leaving the work week behind with a bang! π₯ Just pushed v0.7.0 of #Regal, the linter for #Rego. Featuring a new 'custom' category where *you* decide the rules, allowing teams and orgs to enforce things like their own naming conventions. Lots of other good stuff added this summer. If you ever work with #OPA and Rego, make sure to check it out!
Oh, and please give the project a βοΈ if you'd like to make my weekend even better π

Kelemetry is a #opensource tracing tool for #Kubernetes control plane.
A fascinating use case for applying #DistributedTracing on async systems. similar to #kspan, it represents the k8s object as the span and the events on it as child spans.

A new working group under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (#CNCF) aims to establish a query language standard for observability.
And it's got major end-user backing by the likes of eBay and Netflix.

I had a piece of history nicely re-printed on plexiglass since my original (paper) had unfortunately been damaged over time.
It's a nice decoration in my office that will last as a good reminder that things were once simpler.

dear #CNCF please stop using non-standard timezone abbreviations, and instead stick to something vaguely resembling ISO8601.
I mean look at this. No-one who is actually in PDT (whatever the heck that is) is going to be attending at 12:00 AM, so why use that particular non-standard regional timezone notation? Yes I could google it to figure out the UTC offset but should I have to?
