Dear #Mariners and followers of our group:
This is just a quick note to let you know that our treasured #EarlyModernMaritimeStudies group now has over 190 members! Can you spread the word about the group to colleagues and friends who work on the #Oceans, on #CoastalAreas, #PortCities, on the #SlaveryArchive and so many related topics, so we might hit 200 followers by the end of the week? Thanks! This is pretty exciting 😊!

Hello, sailors! I created this group several months ago so that those of us interested in all sorts of maritime topics could share our work and support one another in our research on various kinds of nautical endeavors. I'm very pleased to announce the publication of my essay "Time of Catastrophe: temporalities in the transatlantic relación of Diego Portichuelo de Ribadeneyra" in this volume. This essay about an astonishingly difficult navigation from Callao to the Bay of Cádiz is part of my book in progress, _The Seafarer’s Bond: Risk, Transaction and Textual Circulation in the Iberian Atlantic (1544–1660)_. The chapter is easily downloadable as a PDF from the ebook of the Companion. Perhaps encourage your library to purchase the ebook. ⚓️ Okay, your turn now! Please share your work about the #Sea and related topics, such as #CoastalAreas and #PortCities in our group!

Current models of sea level rise suggest the most widespread impacts will occur after sea level has risen by several meters. But a new study finds the biggest increases in inundation will occur after the first 2 meters (6.6 feet) of sea level rise, covering more than twice as much land as older elevation models predicted. #ClimateCrisis #SeaLevelRise #NASA #coastalareas #sealevel #flooding https://phys.org/news/2023-01-worst-impacts-sea-earlier.html

"A dead zone in the ocean is as bad as it sounds. Being clueless about dead zones scope and path is worse. Scientists at Michigan State University (MSU) have discovered a birds-eye method to predict where, when and how long dead zones persist across large coastal regions".
