The Canadian Government has made a new tourism ad, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative!

From Dogwood

General David Petraeus might be familiar if you followed the U.S. invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. As the top commander in the so-called “War on Terror,” Petraeus wrote the U.S. military field manual on counterinsurgency warfare.

Now those tactics are being used against Indigenous people and other civilians in B.C. to suppress resistance to oil and gas pipelines.

This article is like something straight out of 1950s. As the province burns, we have this nonsense being written about a fossil fuel project that will emit more CO2 than any single project in the history of British Columbia. Shamefully short sighted and dangerous. “Some environmental groups and First Nations” are protesting. Nice understatement..

If Canada leaves our natural gas in the ground we will be in fact worsening global emissions by making way for way dirtier sources and suppliers.

I always find it hilarious how uncomfortable mainstream journalists are with saying the word . At least they call us a movement. Still, and not surprisingly, the framing of this CBC story about sabotage of the pipeline in feels very pro-cop, pro-industry and anti-anarchist.

@NBdatapoints
This article has police-narrative political framing all over it; an officer stepped on a board with a nail in it (a "booby trap", the police allege), but the 10 million in property damage tells a different story about the priorities of these "anarchists" (which is what the police call them, we don't seem to know what they call themselves)

in our history the railroad was built irrespective of the people impacted by it, for industry purposes and industry enrichment. railroad money greased everyone's hands in the federal government. is today different?

it's not too dissimilar to the situation with Louis Riel and the MĂ©tis - unfortunately they did not have a chance in hell, nor do these "anarchists" and peaceful protesters unless they can garner public support

10 million in property damage unfortunately gets a lot more attention than peaceful protests. The MĂ©tis tried the peaceful route and were completely ignored until they took up arms. only then did those people actually get anything.

our population has generally been pretty apathetic and supportive of the federal government, even when it acts against our best interests

i don't know if this pipeline is good or bad, but this article wants you to come away with the police's narrative
