Here’s my big “horseshoe curve” moment.

I struck up a nice conversation in the cafe car with a guy from North Carolina. He stepped out at the stop in Santa Barbara “to smell the coastal air” and left his stuff at the table for me to keep an eye on. A couple minutes after we rolled out of the station a conductor came to collect the man’s stuff — I guess he missed the “all aboard” call. Brutal!

Second stop of the day is Union Station. Until someone manages to bring back airships, this is basically the west coast’s “Church of slow travel”. It’s just stunningly beautiful.

I would 100% ride this train. Probably several times a year! It would be sad not to have the daytime view of the Coast Starlight, but I’d really love to hop on a train in the evening and just arrive at Union Station the next morning, especially if it’s a comfy ride.

The #Amtrak #CoastStarLight we're supposed to be taking back to the #BayArea is hella delayed just after #SimiValley and we might be forced to take an extra day in San Luis Obispo. Oh no, the horror, what ever will we do having to take another whole day in paradise?
