Listened to the "#Mainframe Myths Debunked! - with Jennifer Velasquez and Kirk Chadrick" episode of #IBMZ DevOps Talks today while on the train, and they talked about languages, git, developer environments and more! Lots of good stuff packed in a small podcast!

I think I enjoyed the "#COBOL is easy" bits the most. I keep saying this and people don't believe me 😅 Kids these days have it... harder! It's way different, but concept-wise it's quite straight forward.

@remy9999 Konnte auch daran liegen dass der #cobol-Code langsam war, weil der immer gegen eine COBOL-Runtime lief, die geprüft hat, ob die Lizenz noch gültig war

@remy9999 Mangels Talent nutze ich meist nur vorhandene Software. Mit #cobol hatte ich nur zu tun, weil mein damaliger Arbeitgeber viel „alten“ COBOL-Code hatte. Der wurde irgendwann aber maschinell nach #java konvertiert und lief dann sogar schneller…

Popularity of #programming languages from August (#perl is 28 at 0.68%).
Has its limitations, but a couple of points worth noting :
1. #COBOL and #FORTRAN are holding rather well
2. languages that are involved in some sort of data analysis and processing (#sql, #clang /c++) are doing very well. Not sure what to make of #Python; are ppl in #AI seeing through the reality is a scripting over extremely performant c/c++ and that there are other lang that can glue as well?
