Jewish settlers and exiles emigrated to Kerala in southern India, in different periods of time through history. A very small population exists now in Cochin, and the Paradesi Synagogue (built in 16th century) is still active as a place of worship.

Lazy afternoon exploring Fort Kochi - named so, for being the first European fort on Indian soil, and a witness to European colonization over the 16th-20th century. Pictured here is St Francis church, one of the oldest in India from early 16th century and said to originally house the remains of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama (later moved to Lisbon)

Wallnut, a cochin rooster, has become my little follower as I do chores outside so I figured I'd introduce him. He's a little overly affectionate (his teenage era is very hormonal). He'll shuffle along behind me, curious about why I would work on a car or fill a compost bin. He's part of a group of four roosters who have become de facto guardians for our adolescent chickens.

One of the petit Cochin roosters my wife is gearing up to sell. His name is Penn (his sibling is Teller, naturally). My wife prefers breeding and raising Cochins because of their affectionate temperaments. The roosters are devoted to their hens and chicks (Penn’s dad, Professor Ralphie, is raising and training six of his juvenile roosters).
