Why wait for a formal code review when you can do an ad-hoc session? If you spot an issue or improvement in code, invite the responsible team member for a quick, on-the-spot review. 🖥️ #CodeReviews #EngineeringTips
What do you say when somebody, says "we'll get to that later" when you do a code review. My fix is about 5 minutes to execute and yeilds 500% better performance and potentially fewer future bugs.

Nothing making you start reading very carefully more than the line
import { ... } from "crypto";
Today's feedback was somebody was trying to create a random 4 digit number using way too much work and accidentally removed 10% of the probability space.

If your company does #codereviews - and I think they should - try your best as a reviewer to be an enabler rather than a gate keeper.
For example: fairly good code with sufficient passing tests should be approved with suggestions for better style that the submitter is free to implement. This promotes trust, lets you move quickly without sacrificing quality, and the submitter is likely to make the changes.
Gating a PR on style slows your team down massively, especially if it’s distributed.
As an #engineering leader, you need to be able to meet your teams where they are today to help get them where you want them to be. In my last org, I did not need to write a single line of #code or really get too into #codereviews. Instead, I focused on helping tech leads understand what it takes to lead and I helped managers effectively work with their teams and draw up quarterly plans. In my current role, I'm writing code/tickets and doing code reviews. You fill in where you are needed.

Another #Tesla Shitshow!
Wonder how much credit #Musk is going to take for this #failure?
Wonder if he's going to bring a #whiteboard and have one of his #CodeReviews 🤔😂

My work life seems to consist of:
- Beg for code reviews every day
- Deploy something to a dozen environments by hand, one step per day.
- Repeat.
This is utterly miserable.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but, making changes to a multi-entry YAML file *and* reordering it at once is *NOT* OK.
Talk about an unreviewable mess.

Are code styles effective? Are they suffocating the developer's spirit?

Interesting discussion on different work flows, the tradeoffs and when to apply.
I'm currently trying to find the right mixture.

Now I’m wondering if there’s an #ActivityPub, distributed, #federated #GitHub or #GitLab equivalent.
The sheer reliance of *gestures* everything being on GitHub has always made me uncomfortable.

This is kind of interesting, lots of #coding in #Science but I've never heard of a #CodingTeam or formal #CodeReviews.
Is this something anyone out here has experience of at a #ResearchInstitute?
