Grr! MS just aged VS on Mac. I’m glad CodeServer is still open source, buggy and slow as it is.
Are there any good alternatives to CodeServer?
self-hosted on a RaspberryPi
open-source
programming IDE
?
I’ve been playing with VSCode for the first time. Decent editor. I can’t figure out how to SFTP from it however, and it doesn’t understand the standard keyboard shortcuts on the iPad I’m sure there’s a setting somewhere.
I’m trying to create a workspace in VSCode server (codeserver) and getting this error when adding a folder. This message is useless. Anyone know how to resolve this or at least find the file in question?
Thanks
#workspace #codeserver #vscode
#codeserver works great with #hugo remotely https://sleeplessbeastie.eu/2023/02/24/how-to-serve-hugo-using-code-server/
When we launched code-server back in 2019, we had one goal in mind: bring #VSCode to the web. Since then the project has grown beyond what we could have imagined. One of those ways is using code-server with multiple users.
While we’ve developed our own solution [1] to this problem, lets explore all the solutions we’ve seen implemented by the community.

BTW there's also the #OS version of #vscode server #codeserver which I find very weird no one talks about on here. instead everyone is amazed about a software from a monopolistic company that in its history has ruined a s*tload of things
@zrail 💙 at it's core coder/coder creates things, turns them on and turns them off. Anything that can be terraformed can be managed.
Like right now I (@ghuntley) am working on a M1 mac but am doing some work on #windows to add #winget and #chocolatey support. After this done will be adding support for #freebsd to coder/coder.
Joe (the maintainer of #codeserver) uses coder/coder to provision his teaching environments. See https://coder.com/blog/dedicated-development-environment-for-teaching

Recently I’ve been getting more into using my #iPad Pro as a daily-driver. I love its versatility, speed, and battery.
Here are some notes on how I set up a working dev environment for coding on iPad using #Tailscale and #CodeServer https://wilw.dev/blog/2022/06/12/ipad-coding
@mhamzahkhan I often end up using #Theia in #GitPod. I'm at my parents' for the lockdown and have my work laptop only with me at the moment. And, our work laptops block installation of every single thing. Which is why when I need to work on minor stuff like updating the dependencies of a package I maintain, GitPod is my go to.
For major devlopements, I use #codeserver running on a #Hetzner server.
#theia #codeserver #gitpod #hetzner
@edgren @codeberg@mastodon.technology Yes, that would work for my use-case but I gotta maintain a server for that.
If I don't find anything on the lines of #gitpod, I'd resort to #codeserver or #theia.
